RAF FALCON FIELD - IN THE USA -WORLD WAR II

Jim Payne says "Here I have produced a CD of an original WW2 photo album within my collection . The Cd contains around 90 high resolution scans ..I have also added to the Cd scans of the mans RAF Service and release book and pilot log book .

RAF Falcon field Arizona USA was used during World War 2 to train young RAF Pilots . Our man was in the RAF from 1944 to 1947 and in the USA 28.05.45 - 23.09.1945 ..he is a handsome chap , named and featured with fellow RAF personnel and his planes within the images .

All the photos on the Cd were taken while he was in USA ...some nice shots of the base , 15 photos of crashed / damaged planes taken from different angles ...I cannot quite workout what happened but it looks like a storm / hurricane has lifted and thrown the planes around ....there are also 10 original photos taken from a plane in flight .

CD 2 contains 184 high res scans ..the album belonged to RAF officer K.C.G. Linnington ..I believe for at least part of the war he was an equipment officer ,working on aircraft maintenance at various RAF Air training bases in S.Africa ...although he is seen taking flying lessons , so he may well have been a pilot as well.

The album almost entirely covers his service in the RAF while in Africa ., although at front of album there are 2 large group photos first is RAF Hereford equipment officers school , the other officer cadet training unit Cosford , he is clearly seen and named in both .

There are many shots of uniformed men and loads of photos of planes ..lots of Harvards both on ground and in flight ...some excellent shots taken out of plane showing large formations in the air .

Other planes include a captured German Junkers 88 ,3 of Hurricanes , Liberator , 11 photos of a visiting Arie Lancastrian which broke the record for speed from England to Capetown ., Ansons , a kitty hawk , Lockheed loadstar , Oxfords , 3 photos of the kings flight Viking at Capetown .

There are 13 photos which show planes being crated for shipping to India & England .

There are shots taken from the air over air bases and on the ground ..including no 47 airschool,Queenstown ,Cape Province , no45 airschool , Grahamstown , Cape Province , no 22 air school Veneeniging Transvaal South Africa , no 62 airschool ,Bloemfontein .

Prior to buying these albums, I had no idea that the RAF Trained so many of its pilots outside of Britain ...there are many fascinating photos on these cds."

The images here are very low resolution only, on the CD they print out to A4 and A3 really well. Jim is doing an amazing job, buying in these albums at auctions etc, and rather than keeping them to himself in his own collection, he is making them easily available to all, costs ?? with p&p, less than a Ł tenner - an amazing buy. The more you buy off him, the more albums he will get and so the the more you will get, so do it!! I have because I want to see more.
